Shop With a Cop
Listing Title
Listing Category
Description

The Shop-With-A-Cop program is a heartwarming initiative that brings together underprivileged children and local law enforcement officers. This program generously provides these children with money to shop for gifts not only for their families but also for themselves. Funded entirely by donations, this initiative is a beacon of hope for the less fortunate.

The selection process involves collaboration between law enforcement officers and grade school administrators, who identify deserving children from kindergarten to 6th grade. These youngsters, carefully chosen during the end-of-the-year holiday season, are given the opportunity to shop at local stores. Each child is allocated a specific amount of money, usually around $100, adjusted based on the size of their immediate family.

The primary goal of this event is to cultivate positive relationships between young individuals and law enforcement officers. After their shopping spree, the children are invited to enjoy lunch with all the dedicated law enforcement personnel. Following the meal, they have the chance to wrap the gifts they've selected, all while continuing to interact with the police officers.

Ultimately, the Shop-With-A-Cop program not only spreads joy during the holiday season but also strengthens the bond between the community's youth and the officers who serve and protect them. This meaningful experience leaves a lasting impact on the lives of these children and fosters a sense of unity and understanding within the community.

How to Participate

If you know of any children who could benefit from the Shop-With-A-Cop program, please send us a nomination form informing us of who they are. We are looking for children that meet the following criteria:

The child must be in kindergarten through 6th grade
The child must have a social or economic need
The child must live within Shoshone County
ONLY (2) children per household will be accepted
Applications are due no later than December 4th at 5 PM

If you would like to donate to the program or nominate a child, please call (208) 753-9001 or email j.woody@cityofosburn.org.
